AI Isn't Taking Your Job Yet—But It Might Soon, OpenAI Data Suggests
OpenAI's GDPval benchmark has revealed that AI, particularly models like Claude and GPT-5, is matching human experts in various professional tasks such as legal briefs, coding, and report generation. The study assessed 1,320 tasks across 44 occupations, particularly focusing on roles that rely heavily on digital work, including software development, legal work, and customer service. Over a span of just 15 months, these AI models improved their performance by 300%. This rapid advancement raises concerns, especially for white-collar jobs that were once believed to be secure from automation disruptions. Although AI's capabilities are increasing, tasks involving interpersonal skills and physical presence remain out of reach for now. Despite the potential for job augmentation rather than outright replacement, the findings indicate that many current professional roles could be significantly transformed by AI technologies. As such, an economic shift towards automation seems imminent, underscoring the necessity for adaptation and preparedness within the workforce.
