Bitcoin now just one of many ways for retail to onboard to crypto
A recent CoinGecko survey revealed that only 55% of new crypto owners began their investments with Bitcoin, indicating market maturation. The survey of 2,549 respondents found that 10% had never purchased Bitcoin. Analysts like Yuqian Lim noted that alternative cryptocurrencies (altcoins) are growing in popularity, suggesting that Bitcoin is no longer the sole entry point into crypto, as investment narratives diversify. Kraken's Jonathon Miller emphasized that the crypto ecosystem is evolving, making it easier for new investors to explore other assets like DeFi and memecoins. Hank Huang from Kronos Research mentioned that investors often prefer the lower costs and strong community ties offered by altcoins, noting that 37% entered via these options. Meanwhile, Tom Bruni from Stocktwits pointed out that the fear of missing out on Bitcoin's previous price rallies drives investors toward other assets. Venture capital partner Qin En Looi suggested that as traditional financial systems integrate Bitcoin, fewer will remain with zero exposure, although its role as a benchmark will persist amid a growing array of relevant assets.
