Citi raises stablecoin market cap forecast to $4T by 2030

Citi has updated its stablecoin market cap forecast, projecting growth to $4 trillion by 2030. The bank's analysts suggest a base case of $1.9 trillion, up from earlier projections of $1.6 trillion, and a bull case of $4 trillion, previously at $3.7 trillion. The stablecoin market capitalization exceeded $280 billion in September 2025, with stablecoin settlements surpassing $18 trillion annually, outpacing traditional payment systems like Visa and Mastercard. Citi argues that stablecoins will not disrupt the banking sector but will help transform it, stating that crypto technology is reimagining the financial system rather than dismantling it. This growth follows the implementation of the GENIUS Act in the U.S., which establishes guidelines for stablecoins and encourages their development. Other countries are also exploring the launch of their own stablecoins for enhanced fiat currency salability in international markets, with notable movements from countries like China toward this trend.
