Cloudflare plans ‘NET dollar’ stablecoin to power AI-driven payments
Cloudflare has announced its entry into the digital asset market with the NET dollar, a US dollar-backed stablecoin aimed at supporting instant transactions by AI agents. The stablecoin is designed for programmatic payments, enabling tasks such as purchasing flights or ordering goods automatically. Matthew Prince, Cloudflare's CEO, envisions a future where the internet's business model shifts from ad-based revenue to pay-per-use and microtransactions, facilitating everyday purchases. The NET dollar will be fully backed by US dollars and aims for global interoperability, real-time settlements, and enhanced transactions between AI agents and online services. Although the launch timeline is not disclosed, the stablecoin is expected to be available soon. With stablecoin regulation improving in the U.S. and growing adoption, other players are emerging in the stablecoin arena, signaling a competitive and evolving market landscape.
