Crypto.com CEO Urges Probe After $20B Liquidations

Kris Marszalek, CEO of Crypto.com, has called for regulators to investigate cryptocurrency exchanges following a record $20 billion in liquidations over a 24-hour period, surpassing previous market crashes including that of FTX. In a post on X, Marszalek questioned the fairness of trading practices during the crash and highlighted concerns about potential slowdowns and mispriced assets on trading platforms. Data showed that Hyperliquid led in liquidations at $10.31 billion, followed by Bybit at $4.65 billion, and Binance at $2.41 billion. The liquidations were exacerbated by a price depeg incident on Binance, which resulted in some users facing significant losses due to platform errors. Binance acknowledged the price depeg and is reviewing accounts for compensation. This significant market downturn was triggered by U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of tariffs on Chinese imports, which raised concerns globally, further impacting the cryptocurrency market.
