Decentralized content delivery network Pipe launches mainnet

The decentralized content delivery network (CDN) Pipe has officially launched on the Solana mainnet along with the introduction of its PIPE token. Pipe leverages Jito’s Node Consensus Network (NCN) for economic security, allowing node operators to stake PIPE tokens to help underpin network operations. During its testnet phase, Pipe successfully delivered over 60 petabytes of data across approximately 290,000 Point of Presence nodes, achieving a significant reduction in latency and cost compared to traditional CDNs. David Rhodus, a core contributor to Pipe Network, highlighted its capability to compete against established players like Cloudflare and Akamai by enhancing performance and uptime at the edge, often a flaw for conventional providers. Instead of owning extensive server infrastructures, Pipe utilizes a decentralized physical infrastructure model, coordinating independent node operators' resources to efficiently deliver content. This strategy allows Pipe to expand in high-demand regions like South Korea, India, and Egypt, potentially generating $55 million in annual revenue with goals to reach $100 million by the end of 2025. The PIPE token will facilitate payments for CDN usage and future storage offerings, with additional plans for liquid stake delegation to optimize node performance based on bandwidth and uptime.
