Detroit Man Jailed for 9 Years Over Bitcoin Donations Intended for ISIS
Jibreel Pratt, a 26-year-old from Detroit, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty to transmitting Bitcoin donations meant for ISIS. Beginning in early 2023, Pratt sought to support the terrorist group by pledging allegiance and transferring Bitcoin to someone he believed was an ISIS operative, who was actually a federal informant. He provided tactical documents detailing weaponization of drones and intelligence operations while using a VPN and encryption tools to conceal his activities. U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon emphasized Pratt's actions as a betrayal, highlighting ongoing efforts to dismantle finance networks for terrorism. This case coincides with heightened federal actions against cryptocurrency funding for extremist groups, reflecting an intensified focus on halting such activities within the United States.
