Detroit Man Jailed for 9 Years Over Bitcoin Donations Intended for ISIS
Jibreel Pratt, a Detroit man, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty to concealing Bitcoin donations meant for ISIS. Pratt's scheme started in early 2023 when he contacted a confidential federal informant, believing they were an ISIS operative. He recorded a video pledging allegiance to ISIS and sent Bitcoin to support recruits or acts of violence. To avoid detection, he used a VPN and encryption software to obscure transaction details. The FBI stated this conviction targets efforts to dismantle financing for extremist groups, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated in the U.S.
