Developer of Bitcoin App Samourai Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison

Keonne Rodriguez, a developer of the Samourai Wallet app, received a five-year prison sentence for his role in operating an unlicensed money transmitter. In addition to his prison term, Rodriguez was fined $250,000. The Samourai Wallet allowed users to anonymize Bitcoin transactions by mixing them with others, making it harder to trace. U.S. authorities shut down the platform and arrested Rodriguez and his colleague William Lonergan Hill, claiming they ignored its misuse by criminals. Hill is scheduled for sentencing on November 19.
