DOJ, FBI, Secret Service Unveil 'Strike Force' to Combat Crypto Scams Rooted in China

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched the Scam Center Strike Force, an interagency initiative aimed at dismantling international crypto scams tied to Chinese organized crime. During a press conference, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro highlighted that such scams may have defrauded Americans out of $135 billion in 2024. The Strike Force, comprising various federal agencies, will focus on 'pig butchering' schemes where scammers slowly build trust with victims before stealing their funds. Pirro announced that her office has already seized $480 million in stolen cryptocurrency, aiming to return a portion of it to victims. The initiative represents a shift toward a coordinated offensive against global crypto crime, with agencies working together to trace and seize illicit funds. Experts have welcomed this collaborative approach, suggesting it can enhance efforts to combat the growing threat of cryptocurrency fraud.
