Elon Musk on Messaging Platform X Chat's Features and Bitcoin-Like P2P Encryption
Elon Musk announced the upcoming standalone version of the X messaging platform called 'X Chat,' which will feature peer-to-peer (P2P) encryption likened to Bitcoin's system. This encryption aims to heighten security while avoiding advertising hooks that could compromise user privacy. Currently in beta for Premium users, the in-app Chat supports text messaging, file sharing, and media attachments, with plans for additional features, including audio and video calls. Musk emphasized that robust encryption and a focus on reducing advertisement-related risks could enhance security by decreasing the available attack surface. He clarified that X Chat's distribution will take a dual approach: maintaining integration within the larger X app while introducing a dedicated app in the near future. The current functionality replaces earlier direct messaging systems and aims for less insecurity compared to traditional messaging platforms.
