Elon Musk on X Chat's Features and Bitcoin-Like P2P Encryption

Elon Musk announced that X Chat, a new messaging feature integrated into the X platform, will soon be available as a standalone app. He emphasized its peer-to-peer (P2P) encryption model, likening it to Bitcoin, and noted that the service avoids advertising hooks to enhance security. Currently, X Chat is in beta for Premium X users, allowing text messaging, file sharing, and media support, with audio and video calls planned for the future. Musk explained that many messaging apps retain metadata while encrypting message content, but X Chat aims to limit data retention to reduce security risks. This service will allow users to communicate via text and share files without the vulnerabilities associated with advertising-based models. X Chat currently operates as an enhanced alternative to legacy direct messaging within the X app, with ambitions for a complete feature rollout in coming months.
