Emory University Doubles Down on Bitcoin with $52M Grayscale Bet

Emory University has significantly increased its investment in the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust, more than doubling its holdings to over 1 million shares worth approximately $52 million as of September 30, 2025. The university initially held under 500,000 shares just before this increase. Emory University first entered the Bitcoin trust market in October 2024 with an investment valued at over $15 million. Additionally, the university maintained a smaller stake in BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF, worth about $290,000, while also investing $79 million in BlackRock's iShares Gold Trust. The endowment managers’ growing interest in Bitcoin, through regulated ETFs, reflects a shift among institutional investors toward hard assets, indicating a rising comfort with cryptocurrency investments. Emory's increased allocations to Bitcoin, although still a minor part of its overall portfolio, showcase a significant move towards greater engagement in the digital asset space.
