Emory University Doubles Down on Bitcoin With $52M Grayscale BTC ETF Stake
Emory University has significantly increased its investment in Bitcoin through the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust. In its latest financial disclosures, the Georgia-based university reported holding over 1 million shares of the trust, valued at nearly $52 million at the end of the third quarter of 2025, compared to just under 500,000 shares the previous quarter. The university first invested in Grayscale's bitcoin trust in October 2024, when its stake was valued at over $15 million. In addition to its Bitcoin investment, Emory also maintained its position in BlackRock's spot bitcoin ETF, valued at approximately $290,000, and further expanded into BlackRock's iShares Gold Trust with a $79 million investment. The endowment managers' increasing inclination towards hard assets, including Bitcoin, marks a noteworthy trend among institutional investors, suggesting a growing comfort level with cryptocurrency in regulated formats like ETFs. This shift reflects a broader change in investment strategies among endowments, which conventionally prefer conservative approaches.
