Ethereum Foundation Launches New Cluster Focused on Privacy
The Ethereum Foundation has launched a new privacy team comprising over 28 members to enhance its privacy initiatives. This team is set to include 47 researchers, engineers, coordinators, and cryptographers, led by Igor Barinov, the founder of Blockscout and Gnosis Chain. They will work on projects such as the Institutional Privacy Task Force (IPTF) to ensure compliance with global privacy regulations. This move coincides with the planned roll-out of Kohaku, a privacy-centric wallet SDK designed to facilitate secure transactions with minimal reliance on third parties. The Foundation aims to elevate privacy as a priority within the Ethereum ecosystem, reflecting increasing interest in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies like Zcash. Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum's founder, has been vocal about the need for secure, private communications without governmental backdoors, responding to concerns over potential EU regulations that could compromise user privacy.
