Ethereum’s Fusaka Upgrade Could Cut Node Costs, Ease Adoption

Ethereum is preparing for its Fusaka upgrade, expected to launch at the end of November or early December 2025, following final testnet results. This upgrade, which combines enhancements to both the consensus and execution layers, aims to improve scalability and efficiency within the Ethereum network. Benefits include reduced transaction costs on rollup networks and lower operational costs for new nodes, making it easier for newcomers to participate. The upgrade will implement 12 major code changes, notably EIP-7594, which uses PeerDAS for data availability sampling, enhancing the network's capacity for rollup data while maintaining decentralization. Fusaka is also designed with the long-term vision of setting the stage for more improvements, including the anticipated Glamsterdam upgrade in 2026. The changes are particularly beneficial for institutions running multiple validators, as they will experience reduced bandwidth and storage requirements, translating to lower operational costs. However, these changes may not significantly benefit those already operating extensive validator fleets.
