Franklin Templeton Debuts Tokenized Money Market Fund in Hong Kong
Franklin Templeton has launched a blockchain-based U.S. dollar money-market fund aimed at professional investors in Hong Kong, marking its expansion into Asia's tokenization market. The Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund invests in short-term U.S. government securities, with shares represented as tokens, which promise faster transactions, enhanced transparency, and lower costs compared to traditional funds. This initiative is a part of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's efforts to explore tokenized finance, contributing to the city’s growth as a hub for institutional digital assets. Franklin Templeton is also collaborating with HSBC and OSL to test the fund token, gBENJI, for enhanced yield operations and smoother settlements. The Luxembourg-registered fund adheres to EU regulations designed for investor protection, underscoring Franklin Templeton's commitment to advancing tokenized investment solutions in the region.
