Indonesian University Rolls Out On-chain Records At No Cost to Students

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), one of Indonesia’s largest public universities, will begin issuing verifiable digital credentials on-chain for 60,000 students, starting with English proficiency courses. Students will receive digital wallets preloaded with tokens to pay for tuition and course fees at no cost. This innovative system aims to eliminate intermediaries in financial transactions and help students from unbanked backgrounds access education. Course completions and diplomas will be stored on the Space and Time decentralized database network, creating an immutable record that can be verified by employers and institutions worldwide. The initiative also includes an on-campus AI lab to support students in developing AI applications. By integrating credentials on-chain, UGM seeks to streamline educational achievements and provide equitable access to financial resources, enabling students to prove their educational qualifications more efficiently.
