Metaplanet Borrows $100 Million Against Its Bitcoin Holdings—To Buy More BTC

Metaplanet, a Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm, has pledged $100 million against its Bitcoin holdings to acquire more cryptocurrency. The company, known as the fourth largest Bitcoin treasury, announced its borrowing strategy, emphasizing a focus on managing risks associated with Bitcoin's price volatility. Metaplanet reassured investors about its conservative financial policies, stating that loans would only be executed within secure collateral limits, even amid significant price fluctuations. Trading analytics indicate that Bitcoin had recently declined to near $104,000, but remains significantly below its all-time high of $126,080 recorded in October. This decision comes amid concerns about Bitcoin treasury strategies in light of recent market selloffs, with notable firms reducing their crypto exposures. Metaplanet currently holds a substantial reserve of 30,823 BTC, potentially aiming to acquire up to 210,000 BTC, constituting around 1% of the total supply by 2027. The firm’s approach reflects a growing trend of corporate adoption of Bitcoin as a treasury asset, with over 200 publicly traded treasuries now tracking such strategies.
