Near Foundation is working on an AI ‘digital twin’ for governance votes
The Near Foundation is developing AI-powered delegates to enhance voter participation within its decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). Lane Rettig, a researcher at Near, shared insights on this initiative during the Token2049 conference in Singapore, noting that the goal is to create a user’s delegate, or ‘digital twin’, that can learn their voting preferences and make decisions on their behalf. This could transform the voting process into a rapid mathematical operation, addressing low participation rates that often range between 15% and 25%. Although AI will play a significant role, Rettig emphasizes the importance of human oversight for critical decisions, such as fund allocations. Current AI tools like Pulse, which tracks community sentiment and summarizes discussions, mark the Foundation's initial steps toward implementing AI in governance. The rollout of these delegates will occur gradually, starting with groups sharing similar preferences before expanding to individual AI representatives, potentially even AI CEOs for governance processes.
