Oklahoma Man Gets Five-Year Sentence for $9.4M Crypto Ponzi Scheme
Travis Ford, a 36-year-old from Oklahoma, has been sentenced to five years in prison for operating a fraudulent crypto investment scheme through his firm, Wolf Capital. The scheme raised approximately $9.4 million from about 2,800 investors within eight months before collapsing. Ford was found guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and must pay over $1 million in forfeiture and more than $170,000 in restitution. Although he initially claimed to provide high daily returns, prosecutors indicated that he was aware such returns were unrealistic. A victim of the scheme testified about a significant financial loss, influencing the sentencing decision. Ford acknowledged the harm caused but claimed to be influenced by an online figure known as '0x'. The case underscores the growing concerns around crypto investment scams and emphasizes the need for regulatory oversight in the ever-evolving digital currency landscape.
