OpenAI’s New Sora App Makes Account Deletion Permanent, Including for ChatGPT

OpenAI has introduced its new Sora app, emphasizing that account deletion is irreversible. According to the terms of service for Sora 2, when a user deletes their Sora profile, all associated data, such as conversation history and API usage, is permanently erased. Following deletion, users cannot reuse the same email or phone number for a new account. OpenAI has not provided clarity on why Sora's deletion policies apply to ChatGPT accounts but is working on a feature that would allow separate deletion for Sora accounts. This finality in deletion elevates concerns for users testing new features, especially as the app launched new capabilities like 'cameos' that enable users to insert themselves into AI-generated content. Although deletion remains permanent, OpenAI aims to enhance user management of accounts. The app's rollout is currently restricted to invite-only access.
