Poll Shows Young Conservatives More Willing to Give AI Control Over Policy and Military

A recent poll conducted by the Heartland Institute and Rasmussen Reports found that younger conservatives (ages 18-39) are more willing than liberals to support allowing artificial intelligence to manage significant government functions, including military command. This is surprising given the longstanding conservative concerns regarding perceived political biases in AI systems. The poll, which surveyed 1,496 likely voters, revealed a substantial willingness among these younger conservatives to endorse AI for public policy decisions, constitutional rights, and military leadership aimed at reducing war casualties. Donald Kendal from the Heartland Institute suggested that the results reflect a lack of trust in traditional institutions rather than a blind faith in AI. He noted that the historical low approval ratings for Congress likely contribute to this shift towards AI as a potential solution. Researchers previously documented biases in AI responses favoring leftist perspectives, raising questions about the reliability of AI in addressing political matters. Despite these concerns, more than one-third of surveyed young voters expressed support for delegating military control to AI systems, hoping for a reduction in conflict-related casualties.
