Ripple’s RLUSD to Power Mastercard Credit Card Settlements on XRP Ledger

Ripple is collaborating with Mastercard, WebBank, and Gemini to pilot the use of its RLUSD stablecoin for settling fiat credit card transactions on the XRP Ledger. Announced at Ripple's Swell 2025 event, this initiative represents a significant step as it may lead to one of the first instances of a regulated U.S. bank utilizing a public blockchain to manage card payments. RLUSD, which is fully backed by cash and cash equivalents, has over $1 billion in circulation and is regulated under a New York Trust Charter. The pilot program will focus on transaction speed and efficiency, potentially allowing funds to move nearly instantly, simplifying traditional payment processes that currently take days to clear. If successful, this could serve as a model for future blockchain-based settlement programs among credit card issuers.
