Russian Crypto Scammer and Wife Found Dead in UAE After Apparent Revenge Attack

Roman Novak, a convicted Russian fraudster, and his wife were found dead in the UAE following an apparent crypto wrench attack. Novak had previously been sentenced to six years for an investment scam, defrauding victims of millions. After his release in 2023, he continued his fraudulent activities, reportedly scamming up to $500 million. Novak and his wife met with individuals posing as investors, only to be confronted by men demanding access to his cryptocurrency. After discovering Novak's wallets were empty, they murdered the couple, dismembering their bodies and disposing of them in the desert. The police tracked down eight suspects, identifying them as Russian nationals, including a former homicide officer and two veterans from the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This incident highlights the rising trend of wrench attacks, where criminals use violence to access victims' cryptocurrency. Experts indicate that while these attacks are increasing, average retail investors who use regulated exchanges are less at risk than high-profile fraudsters like Novak, who attract dangerous attention.
