S&P Launches Digital Markets 50 Crypto Index
S&P Global has announced the launch of the Digital Markets 50 Index, a new benchmark designed to track a diverse range of digital assets and blockchain-linked companies. This index will include 15 cryptocurrencies, each with a market capitalization of at least $300 million, and 35 publicly traded companies in the sector with market caps of at least $100 million. Notably, no single component of the index will exceed 5% of its total weight. This initiative signals an increasing integration of digital assets into the traditional finance sector. Dinari, a tokenization company, is collaborating with S&P for the index, which will also see the issuance of a tokenized version called a 'dShare' for investor exposure. The Digital Markets 50 Index may facilitate the development of passive ETFs that track its performance, similar to how traditional index funds operate. The growing recognition of tokenization as a revolutionary financial technology is also highlighted, with indications that the SEC is considering a framework for trading stocks as tokenized assets on blockchain networks.
