SEC Willing to Engage with Tokenized Asset Issuers, SEC’s Hester Peirce Says

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce stated at the Digital Assets Summit in Singapore that the SEC is open to working with industry participants on tokenizing securities. She emphasized the complexity of how these tokenized assets interact with traditional securities. Peirce noted that tokenized securities represent ownership in underlying assets through blockchain-based tokens alongside traditional forms. The tokenization market is currently valued at $31 billion and is projected to grow to $2 trillion by 2030, driven by financial institutions seeking improved liquidity and efficiency. She highlighted the need for a nuanced regulatory approach to understand how different forms of the same security interact, urging stakeholders involved in tokenization to communicate with the SEC.
