Solo Bitcoin Miner Hits the Jackpot, Winning $266K BTC Reward
A solo miner earned a significant Bitcoin reward by mining the 924,569th block, securing approximately 3.146 Bitcoin valued at $266,000. This achievement came despite the individual's meager odds of less than 1 in 100,000 per day for such a reward. The mining was reportedly accomplished using a Bitaxe Gamma, a compact and affordable hobbyist mining rig with a hash rate of around 1.2 terahash per second. Unlike large-scale mining operations that pool resources, this individual miner independently tackled the challenge. The mined block contained 1,351 transactions, and the reward included not just the block reward of 3.125 BTC but also transaction fees. The occurrence of solo miners successfully mining blocks has become more frequent this year, but winning remains a rare event, highlighting the high-risk nature of solo mining. Many still view the solo mining process as an uphill battle compared to joining mining pools, yet the win serves as inspiration for self-reliant miners in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
