Stablecoin Market Could Reach $4 Trillion by 2030, Citi Says in Revised Forecast

Citi has revised its forecast for the stablecoin market, expecting it to grow from approximately $200 billion in early 2025 to between $1.9 trillion and $4 trillion by 2030. This growth reflects increased issuance and potential transaction support, possibly reaching $200 trillion if stablecoins operate with the same velocity as fiat. The report highlights that bank tokens might surpass stablecoins in transaction volume due to corporate demands for regulatory compliance and efficient settlement. While stablecoins and bank tokens are set to coexist, the U.S. dollar will likely remain dominant as most on-chain money is dollar-denominated. This evolution in digital currency is seen as a transformation of financial infrastructure, rather than a competition to eliminate traditional banking.
