Steak ‘n Shake Dumps Ethereum Payments Plan After Pushback From Bitcoin Maxis
Steak 'n Shake has decided against accepting Ethereum after encountering significant backlash from Bitcoin supporters, despite a poll indicating that 53% of voters were in favor of Ethereum payments. The fast-food chain, which began accepting Bitcoin in May and reported a boost in sales attributed to the Bitcoin community, announced it would adhere to the wishes of its Bitcoin clientele. The Twitter poll yielded nearly 50,000 votes, yet following strong criticism from Bitcoin maximalists, the company opted to suspend the poll and declared loyalty to Bitcoin. This decision was applauded by Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, who stated it was a wise choice for the company. Stakeholders in the Bitcoin community had expressed their discontent over any intentions to broaden payment options, emphasizing their preference for Bitcoin exclusivity.
