Tether’s mega fundraise draws top investors as it expands beyond yield income
Tether is reportedly looking to sell about 3% of its equity, attracting interest from major investment firms like SoftBank Group and ARK Investment Management for a potential $20 billion investment. If successful, this funding round could value Tether at $500 billion, positioning it alongside other highly valuable private companies. CEO Paolo Ardoino confirmed that the company is exploring fundraising from a select group of high-profile investors while considering diversifying its business model into sectors like commodities, energy, and media. Tether's US dollar-backed stablecoin, USDt, is the largest stablecoin globally, with a market capitalization of approximately $173.6 billion, primarily supported by US Treasury and Bitcoin holdings. In Q2 2025, Tether recorded a 277% profit increase compared to the previous year, predominantly driven by a surge in Treasury yields as interest rates rose. Despite the strong performance of its core business model, Tether is seeking to reduce reliance on interest income and expand revenue streams through collateralized loans and other avenues.
