Tornado Cash Case: DOJ Had Enough Evidence to Convict Roman Storm
Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York asserted that there was sufficient evidence to convict Roman Storm, a developer of Tornado Cash, which is a cryptocurrency mixing service. In response to Storm's acquittal motion, the DOJ argued that the trial established his role as a co-founder and his involvement in creating features intended to facilitate cybercriminal activities. They highlighted that Storm and his co-conspirators made around 250 changes to the user interface during a period when 96% of users accessed Tornado Cash through that interface. Storm was previously convicted on a conspiracy charge, and the DOJ has urged the judge not to acquit him of either the conspiracy to commit money laundering or the conspiracy to violate sanctions, which were among the charges discussed in earlier parts of the trial. Storm's defense has until Wednesday to respond to these claims.
