Tornado Cash Case: DOJ Had Enough Evidence to Convict Roman Storm, Prosecutors Say
Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York contended they had sufficient evidence to convict Roman Storm, a developer of the cryptocurrency mixing service Tornado Cash, during his recent trial. They opposed Storm's motion for acquittal, stressing that he had actively built and controlled Tornado Cash, which was previously sanctioned for its association with illicit activities. Storm's attorneys are seeking acquittal on all charges, including conspiracy to commit money laundering and violation of sanctions law. Prosecutors highlighted that Storm’s involvement was not incidental; they noted he and his team altered the user interface of Tornado Cash significantly to cater to its users, with 96% of them accessing the service through this interface. They maintained that the evidence substantiated all charges against him, urging the judge not to acquit him. Storm's defense team has until next week to respond to the prosecution's arguments.
