Tornado Cash Case: DOJ Had Enough Evidence to Convict Roman Storm, Prosecutors Say

Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York asserted that they had sufficient evidence to convict Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, opposing his motion for acquittal. Storm was convicted on a conspiracy charge related to operating an unlicensed money transmitter. The defense claims the evidence presented was inadequate to support any convictions, including conspiracy to commit money laundering and sanctions violation. However, prosecutors emphasized that Storm was a co-founder of Tornado Cash and pointed to numerous modifications of the platform designed to aid cybercriminals. They cited the extensive user interface changes made by Storm and his collaborators as indicative of his active control over the service used by a majority of its users. The defense has until Wednesday to respond to the DOJ's claims about the sufficiency of the evidence to sustain all charges against Storm.
