Tornado Cash Case: DOJ Had Enough Evidence to Convict Roman Storm, Prosecutors Say
Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York argued that they possess ample evidence to secure a conviction against Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, countering his motion for acquittal following his earlier conviction on a conspiracy charge. In their post-trial filing, the DOJ emphasized that Storm's role in creating and managing Tornado Cash, a crypto mixing service, was both substantial and deliberate, with significant alterations made to its user interface over a span of two and a half years. They highlighted that approximately 96% of users accessed Tornado Cash through this interface, affirming that his actions were designed to facilitate criminal activity. Storm's defense contended that there was insufficient evidence to support any charges, including money laundering and violating sanctions. The DOJ maintains that the evidence presented during the trial is adequate for the court to reject the defense's request for full acquittal, as they seek to uphold the prosecution's convictions and charges against Storm.
