Tornado Cash Case: DOJ Had Enough Evidence to Convict Roman Storm, Prosecutors Say
Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York made a filing asserting that they had sufficient evidence to convict Roman Storm, a developer of the crypto mixing service Tornado Cash. This motion counters Storm's request for acquittal following his earlier conviction for conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitter. The prosecution emphasized that Storm had a significant role in the development and control of Tornado Cash and that its features were purposefully designed to assist cybercriminals. They noted that during the trial, evidence showed Storm and his co-conspirators made substantial changes to the user interface, indicating intentional oversight as most users engaged with the service through these modifications. The prosecutors also defended their stance on the other charges against Storm, which include conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate sanctions law, arguing that the evidence warranted a conviction on these counts. Storm's attorneys are expected to file a response soon.
