Two Indicted in Tel Aviv Over $600,000 ‘Wrench Attack’ on Bitcoin Trader

A Herzliya crypto trader was the victim of a violent robbery, costing him approximately $600,000 in cryptocurrency. The incident, which occurred on September 7, involved three assailants who ambushed the trader in his apartment building, beat him, and threatened his family. They forced him to surrender access to his crypto wallets, stealing Bitcoin and USDT, along with a $50,000 Rolex, a laptop, and cash. Murad Mahajna, the alleged ringleader, has been indicted with two accomplices. Prosecutors highlight that this attack is part of a disturbing trend of “wrench attacks” on cryptocurrency holders, which have reached a record number of 52 incidents globally in 2025, averaging one per week. The victim initially hesitated to contact authorities out of fear for his family's safety but eventually reported the crime, leading to Mahajna's arrest with the help of recorded calls and surveillance evidence.
