USDT Issuer Tether to Launch Tokenized Gold Treasury Firm With Antalpha
Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, plans to collaborate with the crypto miner financing firm Antalpha to launch a digital asset treasury focused on tokenized gold. The project aims to raise at least $200 million to create a treasury that will hold Tether Gold (XAUT), the largest gold-backed token currently in circulation, with a market capitalization of nearly $1.5 billion. The initiative follows Tether's investments in bitcoin treasury firm XXI Capital and seeks to enhance its diverse portfolio that includes various sectors such as energy and artificial intelligence. Antalpha, known for lending to mining equipment manufacturer Bitmain, has also recently announced plans for a new hub that will offer services for XAUT-backed lending and gold token redemptions. Tether's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, has emphasized gold as a valuable hard asset; the company held approximately $8.7 billion in gold on its balance sheet, supporting its strategy to expand beyond stablecoins into broader asset management.
