Visa Tests Stablecoin Payouts for Creators and Gig Workers
Visa is piloting a system that enables businesses to send payments directly to digital wallets using dollar-backed stablecoins like USDC. The initiative aims to provide quicker access to earnings for creators, freelancers, and gig workers who typically experience payment delays, particularly when working internationally. With Visa Direct, companies can fund these payouts in fiat, while recipients can convert them into stablecoins. This approach is designed to enhance financial accessibility in regions with unstable currencies or limited banking options. The project's goal is to facilitate faster, global money movement, allowing payments to be completed in minutes rather than days. Following an initial pilot launched in September 2025, this expanded phase further connects stablecoin use to end-users, potentially transforming payment methods for online platforms. Visa plans to roll out this capability more broadly in 2026 pending regulatory developments and rising client demand, continuing its efforts to integrate blockchain with its conventional payment network.
